The Gardens at West Green Wedding Venue: A Photographer's Guide

wedding photography

The Gardens at West Green is one of San Antonio's best small wedding venues: an intimate garden property in northwest San Antonio, shaded by old oak trees and built around a white loggia, a three-tier fountain and neatly trimmed hedges. We've photographed multiple weddings here, and every photo in this guide comes from Brianna and Rick's May 2026 wedding.

This guide covers the ceremony site, the getting-ready rooms, the best photo spots and decor ideas. For the story of their day, read Brianna and Rick's wedding at The Gardens at West Green, and for another real wedding here, see Sonia and Jamison's garden wedding.

The White Loggia

The heart of the property is a white loggia with arched openings and columns. It's the ceremony backdrop, a natural frame for portraits and, with a chandelier hanging in the center arch, one of the prettiest spots on the property for photos of the couple.

The Ceremony Lawn Under the Oaks

Guests sit in white chairs on the lawn facing the loggia, shaded by big oak trees. The oaks give the ceremony a canopy overhead and soft, even light, which is especially helpful for an afternoon wedding in Texas.

The Getting-Ready Rooms

The white two-story house on the property has bright getting-ready rooms with tall windows, so there's beautiful natural light for getting-ready photos. Brianna got ready by the windows with her bouquet, and Rick got ready with their two sons.

The Fountain and Courtyard

A three-tier fountain sits near the courtyard in front of a white building with a black awning. The fountain makes a classic portrait backdrop, and the open courtyard is big enough for a first dance with guests gathered around. That's exactly how Brianna and Rick used it right after the ceremony.

Garden Spots for Portraits

  • The garden paths, framed by trimmed hedges.
  • The white wooden wall under the oaks, which works as a private spot before the ceremony.
  • The hedges along the loggia, for clean, green backgrounds.
  • The open lawn, for wide shots with the oaks overhead.

Decor Ideas from Brianna and Rick's Wedding

  • Keep the palette white and green. The oaks and hedges supply the green, so all-white florals look clean and classic.
  • Dress the loggia. White florals on tall stands and in white pots along the columns frame the ceremony.
  • Add a welcome sign. Their clear sign with lace trim and white ribbon, set on a black stand with white flowers at its base, fit right in under the oaks.
  • Let the fountain be part of the decor. A few white roses on the fountain tie it to the rest of the day.

Ceremony Here, Reception Somewhere Else

Because the venue is intimate, some couples hold their ceremony and portraits at The Gardens at West Green and move the reception elsewhere. Brianna and Rick held their reception at Maggiano's Little Italy, which we've written about as a micro wedding reception venue in San Antonio.
