Witte Museum Weddings: A Photographer's Guide

wedding photography

The Witte Museum is one of the most memorable wedding venues in San Antonio: big oaks, native gardens, river views and a museum campus with real character, all just minutes from downtown. Here's what to know about getting married at the Witte, from a team that has photographed a wedding there.

Why Couples Choose the Witte

The Witte sits on the banks of the San Antonio River, right next to Brackenridge Park. It feels like a quiet Hill Country escape without ever leaving the city. We recently photographed Soledad and Corey's wedding at the Witte, and it's easy to see why couples fall for it.

The Spaces

The Courtyard is an outdoor space under a canopy of large oaks. It's the classic Witte look and works beautifully for ceremonies, first looks and receptions.

The Texas Native Plant Garden is a private garden setting, perfect for an intimate ceremony or for portraits between moments.

The Mays Family Center is the Witte's modern indoor event space, a great fit for a reception and a reliable weather backup.

Inside the museum, the setting gets even more unique. Soledad and Corey said their vows indoors with the museum's dinosaur skeletons standing over the aisle, which makes for photos you won't get anywhere else in San Antonio.

How Witte Weddings Are Set Up

The Witte offers ceremony-and-reception packages, reception-only packages and a smaller ceremony-only option for up to 50 guests from May through September. Packages include setup time, event time, tables and chairs for your space and the garden space that goes with it, and the Witte's event team works as the liaison between the museum and your wedding vendors. Check current packages and book a personal tour directly with the Witte.

Photo Tips From Our Team

Use the oak canopy. The Courtyard's oaks give you soft, even shade, a huge help on bright Texas afternoons.

Save time for the gardens. The native plantings give you texture and color for couple portraits without leaving the property.

Plan around your event hours. Packages include a set block of event time, so build in portraits early or do a first look so you're never rushing.

Don't skip the dinosaurs. A few frames inside the museum are the photos your guests will talk about.

Have an indoor plan. San Antonio weather can turn quickly, and knowing your indoor backup ahead of time keeps your photos and timeline on track.
